Abstract

Perkembangan kawasan industri nikel di Kecamatan Bahodopi telah mendorong transformasi spasial dan non-spasial yang signifikan pada permukiman di sekitarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis transformasi spasial dan non-spasial permukiman serta implikasinya terhadap kualitas hidup masyarakat di kawasan industri nikel Bahodopi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan mixed methods melalui analisis perubahan penggunaan lahan, kepadatan penduduk, dan pola permukiman berbasis Sistem Informasi Geografis, yang dipadukan dengan survei kualitas hidup menggunakan instrumen WHOQOL-BREF yang dimodifikasi, wawancara mendalam, dan observasi lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa industrialisasi nikel telah mendorong ekspansi kawasan terbangun, peningkatan kepadatan penduduk, serta perubahan pola permukiman yang paling intensif terjadi pada desa-desa yang berdekatan dengan kawasan industri. Transformasi non-spasial ditandai oleh perubahan struktur mata pencaharian, peningkatan peluang ekonomi, arus migrasi penduduk, perubahan hubungan sosial, serta meningkatnya tekanan lingkungan dan kesehatan. Meskipun Sebagian masyarakat memperoleh manfaat ekonomi melalui peningkatan pendapatan dan peluang usaha baru, peningkatan kualitas hidup tidak terjadi secara merata. Desa-desa yang berada dekat dengan pusat aktivitas industri memperoleh manfaat ekonomi yang lebih besar, namun juga menghadapi tekanan sosial dan lingkungan yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan desa lainnya. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa transformasi permukiman akibat industrialisasi nikel menghasilkan pola pembangunan yang tidak merata, sehingga diperlukan perencanaan permukiman yang lebih inklusif dan berkelanjutan untuk memastikan distribusi manfaat pembangunan yang lebih adil bagi masyarakat lokal.

The development of the nickel industrial area in Bahodopi District has driven significant spatial and non-spatial transformations in the surrounding settlements. This study aims to analyze these spatial and non-spatial settlement transformations and their implications for the quality of life of communities in the Bahodopi nickel industrial area.
A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining Geographic Information System (GIS)-based analyses of land use change, population density, and settlement patterns with a quality-of-life survey using a modified WHOQOL-BREF instrument, in-depth interviews, and field observations. The results indicate that nickel industrialization has accelerated the expansion of built-up areas, increased population density, and altered settlement patterns, with the most intensive spatial transformations occurring in villages located closest to the industrial area. Non-spatial transformations were characterized by changes in livelihood structures, expanded economic opportunities, increased in-migration, shifts in social relationships, and growing environmental and health pressures. Although some residents benefited economically through higher incomes and new business opportunities, improvements in quality of life were not distributed evenly. Villages located near the industrial center experienced greater economic benefits but also faced higher levels of social and environmental pressures than those located farther away. These findings demonstrate that settlement transformation driven by nickel industrialization has produced an uneven pattern of development. Therefore, more inclusive and sustainable settlement planning is required to ensure a more equitable distribution of development benefits for local communities.
