Abstract
Peningkatan kebutuhan bone cement untuk aplikasi ortopedi mendorong perlunya perancangan fasilitas produksi dalam negeri yang mampu memenuhi standar mutu medis dan keberlanjutan pasokan. Tugas desain ini bertujuan untuk merancangan pabrik bone cement berbahan dasar polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) dengan kapasitas produksi 1000 ton/tahun yang berlokasi di Tangerang. Pabrik direncanakan mulai beroperasi pada tahun 2029 dengan umur operasi selama 21 tahun. Ruang lingkup perancangan meliputi penentuan spesifikasi produk disesuaikan dengan ISO 5833, pemilihan dan perancangan peralatan utama, penyusunan diagram alir proses, serta perhitungan neraca massa dan energi pada setiap tahapan produksi. Desain proses difokuskan untuk menghasilkan bone cement dengan karakteristik yang memenuhi persyaratan mutu medis, termasuk sifat mekanik, komposisi, serta parameter temperatur dan waktu setting. Berdasarkan analisis ekonomi pendahuluan, pabrik diproyeksikan mulai memperoleh keuntungan pada tahun ke-3 operasi, dengan nilai Break Even Point (BEP) sebesar sekitar 10,14% kapasitas produksi dan IRR sebesar 45,54%, sehingga menunjukkan bahwa pabrik memiliki prospek operasional yang baik. Hasil perancangan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar teknis dalam pengembangan industri bone cement berbasis PMMA di Indonesia.

The increasing demand for bone cement for orthopedic applications highlights the need for designing a domestic production facility capable of meeting medical quality standards and ensuring supply sustainability. This design project aims to develop a PMMA-based bone cement plant with a production capacity of 1,000 tons per year, to be located in Tangerang. The plant is planned to commence operation in 2029 with an operational lifetime of 21 years. The scope of the design includes determining product specifications in accordance with ISO 5833, selecting and designing the main process equipment, developing the process flow diagram, and performing mass and energy balance calculations for each stage of production. The process design focuses on producing bone cement that meets medical quality requirements, including mechanical properties, composition, and setting temperature and time parameters. Based on a preliminary economic analysis, the plant is projected to achieve profitability in the third year of operation, with a Break Even Point (BEP) of approximately 10.14% of production capacity and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 45.54%, indicating strong operational prospects. The results of this design are expected to serve as a technical foundation for the development of a PMMA-based bone cement industry in Indonesia.
