Abstract

Earthquakes are among the most frequent natural disasters in Indonesia due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, causing infrastructure and environmental damage that requires a lengthy reconstruction and rehabilitation process, while conventional training media are considered insufficient for realistically and comprehensively depicting field conditions for the personnel who carry them out. This study designs, implements, and evaluates a First Person View (FPV) and Spectator View perspective system in the RRekonVR Virtual Reality application, developed using Unity and the Meta Quest 3 device, with Malang City and Kediri City as case studies, as a simulation and training medium for post-earthquake environmental reconstruction and rehabilitation aimed at intern staff of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), with the general public and junior and senior high school students as supporting users. Spectator View is used as the initial viewpoint to observe damage through a city miniature, while First Person View is applied to the location survey feature, with interaction through a coin-based reconstruction mechanism and interactive sector quizzes. Functional evaluation through black box testing of 49 test scenarios showed that all functions ran as expected with a 100% success rate, while usability evaluation using the System Usability Scale (SUS) with 10 respondents produced an average score of 66.75 (Marginal High category), although two respondents scored below 50, which falls under the Not Acceptable category, indicating challenges in initial ease of use. Motion sickness evaluation using the Virtual Reality Sickness Questionnaire (VRSQ) produced an average total score of 20.33 on a 0–100 scale, categorized as low to moderate, with the Oculomotor component scoring higher than the Disorientation component. Perspective comparison evaluation showed that First Person View was significantly superior in the immersion and presence aspect (3.63 versus 2.13; p = 0.002), while Spectator View was significantly superior in the spatial and scale understanding aspect (3.77 versus 2.83; p = 0.002), while both perspectives performed equally in the procedural understanding aspect of the reconstruction-rehabilitation stages (3.20 versus 3.13; p = 0.875), indicating that both perspectives play complementary roles.
