Abstract

Industri furnitur kayu jati merupakan sektor strategis dalam perekonomian indonesia dengan nilai ekspor furnitur kayu mencapai us$ 2,6 miliar pada tahun 2022, meningkat 16,7% dari us$ 2,2 miliar pada 2021, serta menempatkan indonesia dalam 10 besar eksportir kayu dunia dengan nilai us$ 3,97 miliar pada 2024. Komposisi ekspor didominasi furnitur berbahan kayu sebesar 52,62%, jauh melampaui rotan (9,74%) dan bambu (0,07%), yang menunjukkan tingginya permintaan pasar terhadap kayu jati. Peningkatan produksi tersebut berdampak pada bertambahnya limbah potongan kayu berukuran 10–30 cm dengan ketebalan 1–5 cm yang belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal. Di sisi lain, sektor hospitality seperti kafe menjadi salah satu pendorong utama penggunaan furnitur kayu jati, seiring berkembangnya fungsi kafe sebagai ruang multifungsi untuk bersantai, bekerja, rapat, hingga penyelenggaraan acara sosial. Kayoman coffee & eatery merupakan salah satu kafe yang menerapkan konsep natural dan kerap digunakan untuk berbagai kegiatan seperti pernikahan, pertemuan komunitas, dan rapat, namun furnitur eksisting kurang fleksibel dalam mendukung beragam konfigurasi yang dibutuhkan untuk berbagai acara. Berdasarkan kondisi tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan merancang meja dan kursi dengan sistem modular, serta menggunakan material limbah kayu jati sebagai elemen pattern dengan tetap menampilkan tekstur dan warna alami kayu, guna mengurangi limbah produksi, meningkatkan efisiensi material, serta memperkuat daya tarik visual dan identitas desain natural kafe. Metodologi yang digunakan meliputi observasi lapangan, wawancara, studi literatur, analisis kebutuhan pengguna, serta eksplorasi desain berbasis modularitas dan sistem sambungan lepas pasang. Konsep desain menggabungkan struktur modular multi konfigurasi dengan pemanfaatan potongan limbah kayu jati yang disusun menjadi elemen pattern melalui pendekatan material ekspos sebagai strategi peningkatan daya tarik visual. Hasil perancangan berupa set meja dan kursi yang dapat dikonfigurasi ulang sesuai kebutuhan aktivitas, lebih efisien dalam distribusi dan instalasi, serta menghadirkan nilai estetika yang memperkuat karakter natural kafe.

The teak wood furniture industry is a strategic sector in indonesia’s economy, with wooden furniture exports reaching us$ 2.6 billion in 2022, an increase of 16.7% from us$ 2.2 billion in 2021, placing indonesia among the world’s top ten wood exporters with a value of us$ 3.97 billion in 2024. Export composition is dominated by wood-based furniture at 52.62%, significantly surpassing rattan (9.74%) and bamboo (0.07%), indicating strong market demand for teak wood. The increase in production has resulted in a growing amount of waste in the form of small wood offcuts measuring 10–30 cm in length and 1–5 cm in thickness, which have not been optimally utilized. On the other hand, the hospitality sector, particularly cafés, has become one of the main drivers of teak furniture usage, in line with the development of cafés as multifunctional spaces for leisure, work, meetings, and social events. Kayoman coffee & eatery is one such café that adopts a natural concept and frequently hosts various activities such as weddings, community gatherings, and meetings; however, its existing furniture lacks flexibility in supporting diverse spatial configurations required for different events. Based on these conditions, this study aims to design a modular table and chair set utilizing teak wood production waste processed as a pattern element while maintaining the natural texture and color of the material, in order to reduce production waste, improve material efficiency, and enhance the visual appeal and natural design identity of the café. The methodology includes field observation, interviews, literature review, user needs analysis, and design exploration based on modularity and knockdown joint systems. The design concept integrates a multi-configuration modular structure with teak wood offcuts arranged into patterned elements through an exposed material approach as a strategy to enhance visual attractiveness. The final outcome is a table and chair set that can be reconfigured according to activity needs, offers greater efficiency in distribution and installation, and provides aesthetic value that reinforces the café’s natural character.
