Abstract

The low level of junior high school students' understanding of Indonesia's endangered endemic wildlife indicates the need for learning media that not only enhance conceptual understanding but also foster conservation awareness from an early age. Meanwhile, the Grade VII Science textbooks based on the Merdeka Curriculum are still predominantly text-based, provide limited discussion of Indonesia's endemic wildlife, and have not fully supported the implementation of the Deep Learning approach, which emphasizes Meaningful Learning, Mindful Learning, and Joyful Learning. Therefore, this design project aims to develop an interactive printed module introducing Indonesia's endangered endemic wildlife as a supplementary learning medium for the topic of Ecology and Indonesian Biodiversity for Grade VII junior high school students. The design process includes literature studies, existing product studies, in-depth interviews with junior high school science teachers and subject-matter experts, as well as limited user testing. The module was developed based on four characteristics of effective learning media: self-contained, stand-alone, interesting design, and interactive. It is designed to facilitate independent learning by presenting comprehensive content supported by illustrative visuals and interactive activities, including exercises, educational games, and student worksheets. The final outcome is an interactive printed module that integrates the topic of Ecology and Indonesian Biodiversity with the introduction of Indonesia's endangered endemic wildlife and the importance of its conservation. The module is expected to serve as an effective supplementary learning medium that supports the implementation of the Deep Learning approach, enhances students' understanding of the subject matter, and fosters greater awareness and concern for the conservation of Indonesia's endemic wildlife.
