Abstract
Methylene blue (MB) merupakan salah satu jenis zat pewarna yang banyak digunakan pada industri tekstil. MB memiliki sifat toksik dan sulit terdegradasi secara alami sehingga diperlukan penanganan lebih lanjut. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk menangani limbah MB adalah dengan menggunakan proses fotokatalisis. Fotokatalisis memanfaatkan material semikonduktor dan cahaya untuk mendegradasi molekul MB menjadi senyawa yang lebih sederhana dan tidak berbahaya. Namun, penggunaan material fotokatalis tunggal masih memiliki keterbatasan berupa rendahnya kemampuan adsorpsi dan aktivitas fotokatalitik. Oleh karena itu, pada penelitian ini dikembangkan komposit UiO-66-NH₂/CuO sebagai material fotokatalis untuk meningkatkan kemampuan degradasi MB. UiO-66-NH₂ digunakan karena memiliki struktur berpori dan luas permukaan tinggi yang mendukung proses adsorpsi, sedangkan CuO digunakan sebagai material semikonduktor yang mampu meningkatkan aktivitas fotokatalitik pada cahaya tampak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan sintesis UiO-66-NH₂ melalui metode solvothermal dan sintesis CuO melalui metode precipitation menggunakan prekursor copper nitrate dengan penambahan NaOH untuk pengaturan pH, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan proses filtration dan calcination. Komposit UiO-66-NH₂/CuO disintesis dengan variasi kandungan CuO sebesar 10%, 20%, dan 30% terhadap massa total komposit. Karakterisasi material dilakukan menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), dan UV-Vis Spectroscopy untuk mengetahui morfologi, komposisi unsur, struktur kristal, gugus fungsi, luas permukaan, serta karakteristik material komposit. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian karakterisasi tersebut, komposit UiO-66-NH₂/CuO berhasil terbentuk. Hasil pengujian fotokatalitik menunjukkan bahwa komposit UiO-66-NH₂/CuO dengan kandungan CuO sebesar 20% memiliki kemampuan degradasi MB paling optimum dibandingkan variasi lainnya. Peningkatan aktivitas fotokatalitik tersebut disebabkan oleh kombinasi kemampuan adsorpsi dari UiO-66-NH₂ dan aktivitas semikonduktor CuO dalam proses degradasi MB. Oleh karena itu, sintesis komposit UiO-66-NH₂/CuO menjadi langkah yang menjanjikan untuk pengembangan material fotokatalis dalam pengolahan limbah zat warna, khususnya methylene blue (MB).

Methylene blue (MB) is one of the synthetic dyes widely used in the textile industry. MB possesses toxic properties and is difficult to degrade naturally, requiring further treatment to minimize its impact on the aquatic environment. One of the methods that can be applied for MB wastewater treatment is photocatalysis. Photocatalysis utilizes semiconductor materials and light irradiation to degrade MB molecules into simpler, less harmful compounds. However, the application of single photocatalytic materials still faces limitations due to low adsorption capacity and insufficient photocatalytic activity. Therefore, this study developed a UiO-66-NH₂/CuO composite as a photocatalytic material to enhance MB degradation performance. UiO-66-NH₂ was selected due to its porous structure and high surface area, which support adsorption processes, while CuO was incorporated as a semiconductor material to improve photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. In this study, UiO-66-NH₂ was synthesized using a solvothermal method, while CuO was prepared through a precipitation method using copper nitrate precursor with NaOH addition for pH adjustment, followed by filtration and calcination processes. The UiO-66-NH₂/CuO composites were synthesized with CuO content variations of 10%, 20%, and 30% based on the total composite mass. The synthesized materials were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, and UV-Vis Spectroscopy to investigate morphology, elemental composition, crystal structure, functional groups, surface area, and material characteristics. The characterization results confirmed the successful formation of UiO-66-NH₂/CuO composite materials. The photocatalytic evaluation demonstrated that the UiO-66-NH₂/CuO composite with 20% CuO content exhibited the most optimum MB degradation performance compared with other variations. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to the combination of the adsorption capability of UiO-66-NH₂ and the semiconductor activity of CuO during the MB degradation process. Therefore, the synthesis of UiO-66-NH₂/CuO composite provides a promising approach for the development of photocatalytic materials for synthetic dye wastewater treatment, particularly methylene blue degradation.
