Abstract
Magang industri ini dilaksanakan di PT SMART Tbk Surabaya, sebuah perusahaan terkemuka di bidang pengolahan kelapa sawit yang memproduksi minyak goreng, margarin, dan produk turunan lainnya. Fokus utama dalam pelaksanaan tugas khusus laporan magang ini adalah analisis pengaplikasian static mixer sebagai alternatif alat pencampur (blending) antara Phosphoric Acid (PA) dan Crude Palm Oil (CPO) pada proses degumming, serta melakukan evaluasi teknis melalui perancangan ulang (redesign) geometri static mixer guna meningkatkan kualitas pencampuran. Berdasarkan analisis operasional, PT SMART Tbk umumnya menggunakan dynamic mixer untuk proses pencampuran karena menghasilkan turbulensi dan gaya geser yang tinggi. Namun, ketika terjadi pemeliharaan atau gangguan mekanis pada dynamic mixer, static mixer difungsikan sebagai alternatif darurat. Evaluasi awal menunjukkan bahwa desain static mixer eksisting menghasilkan intensitas turbulensi (Turbulence Intensity / TI) sebesar 2,94%, yang masih di bawah performa dynamic mixer (4,11%). Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, dilakukan perancangan ulang (redesign) static mixer dengan meningkatkan jumlah ulir dari 4 menjadi 12 ulir (terbagi dalam 6 segmen) serta menambahkan jeda pipa kosong (flushing zone) sepanjang 0,05 meter di setiap antar segmen. Hasil perhitungan pasca redesign menunjukkan peningkatan kualitas pencampuran dengan nilai Turbulence Intensity total meningkat menjadi 3,97% dan bilangan Reynolds (Reynolds Number) mencapai 75.000 pada bagian ulir. Peningkatan desain ini terbukti efektif dalam mengoptimalkan homogenitas pencampuran Phosphoric Acid dan CPO sekaligus meminimalisir risiko pengendapan material di dalam pipa.

This industrial internship was conducted at PT SMART Tbk Surabaya, a leading palm oil processing company producing cooking oil, margarine, and other derivative products. The primary focus of the special project in this internship report is the analysis of the application of a static mixer as an alternative blending device between Phosphoric Acid (PA) and Crude Palm Oil (CPO) during the degumming process, as well as conducting a technical evaluation through the redesign of the static mixer geometry to improve mixing quality. Based on operational analysis, PT SMART Tbk generally utilizes a dynamic mixer for blending due to its ability to generate high turbulence and shear stress. However, during maintenance or mechanical failures of the dynamic mixer, a static mixer serves as a reliable emergency alternative. Initial evaluations indicated that the existing static mixer design produced a Turbulence Intensity (TI) of 2.94%, which is lower than that of the dynamic mixer (4.11%). To address this, a redesign of the static mixer was performed by increasing the number of helical elements from 4 to 12 (divided into 6 segments) and incorporating 0.05-meter empty pipe intervals (flushing zones) between segments. Post-redesign calculation results demonstrated a significant enhancement in mixing quality, with the total Turbulence Intensity increasing to 3.97% and the Reynolds Number reaching 75,000 at the helical sections. This design improvement effectively optimizes the homogeneity of Phosphoric Acid and CPO blending while minimizing the risk of solid precipitation within the pipeline.
