Abstract

Literacy on post-earthquake reconstruction in Indonesia remains a significant challenge, particularly among early adolescents whose understanding of the recovery phase is still limited. While virtual reality offers a more immersive alternative to conventional learning methods, heavy reliance on dense visual elements can lead to navigation confusion and ultimately hinder learning effectiveness. This study examines the significance of auditory guidance in supporting simulation performance and user comprehension within the RREKON application, involving 16 participants aged 11–15 years through a between-subject experimental design. The variables measured include completion time, coin collection, and reconstruction accuracy sequence, while knowledge improvement was assessed via pre-test and post-test, and user comfort was evaluated using the VRSQ and SUS instruments. Paired t-test results confirm that VR RREKON effectively improved participants' knowledge, with an average score increase of 15 points (T = 5.20, p = 0.000). Two-Way ANOVA results indicate that auditory guidance significantly influenced both completion time and reconstruction accuracy, though its effectiveness varied depending on the complexity of the scenario. All physiological complaints recorded via the VRSQ were classified as mild, and the SUS score of 69.22 placed the
application in the marginal category with an adjective rating of “OK”, confirming that VR RREKON is a suitable and effective disaster education tool for adolescents.
