Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi potensi enceng gondok sebagai material utama dalam pengembangan desain stool yang inovatif dan berkelanjutan. Fokusnya mencakup studi karakteristik material, teknik pengolahan, dan penerapan desain yang fungsional serta estetis. Tujuannya untuk memanfaatkan dan pengolahan keberlanjutan bahan enceng gondok, sekaligus memperluas penggunaannya dalam industri kreatif. Dalam studi analisis, eksplorasi eceng gondok dilakukan dengan beberapa cara yakni memahami karakteristik material, menumpuk dan membuat pola anyam dari batang eceng gondok untuk memperkuat struktur. Setelah melakukan eksplorasi, menyebarkan survey kuesioner untuk mencari tau kebutuhan para calon pengguna. Selain menyebarkan kuesioner juga mewawancarai pengrajin lokal dan potensi buyer. Konsep desain yang digunakan yaitu menerapkan prinsip produk yang memakai bahan eceng gondok natural sebagai visual utama, fungsional decoratif, rustic, dan pattern. Proses perancangan dilakukan melalui tahapan eksplorasi bentuk, pemilihan alternatif desain, dan pengembangan prototipe. Hasil perancangan berupa stool yang tidak hanya estetis namun juga memiliki struktur yang kuat sehingga mampu menopang beban pengguna saat digunakan. Rancangan ini diharapkan menjadi solusi dekoratif berbasis bahan alam eceng gondok.

This study explores the potential of water hyacinth as the primary material in the development of innovative and sustainable stool designs. The focus includes a study of material characteristics, processing techniques, and the application of functional and aesthetic designs. The objective is to utilize and sustainably process water hyacinth while expanding its use in the creative industry. In the analytical study, the exploration of water hyacinth was conducted in several ways, including understanding the material’s characteristics, stacking, and creating woven patterns from water hyacinth stems to reinforce the structure. Following this exploration, a questionnaire survey was distributed to identify the needs of potential users. In addition to distributing the questionnaire, interviews were conducted with local artisans and potential buyers. The design concept employed the principle of using natural water hyacinth as the primary visual element, incorporating functional, decorative, rustic, and patterned elements. The design process involved stages of form exploration, selection of design alternatives, and prototype development. The result is a stool that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally strong enough to support the user’s weight when in use. This design is intended to serve as a decorative solution based on the natural material water hyacinth.
