Abstract

Self-care culture refers to activity of maintaining individual well-being, is no longer perceived solely as medical needs but also emotional aspects and social identity. Gen Z, facing increasing social, economic, and psychological pressures, has widely adopted this trend. In Indonesia, sales data for mental health products and services shows that aromatherapy is the most popular category, with the fastest growth segment on the direct inhalation method, like herbal inhalers. However, initial survey results indicate issues regarding portability in the usage of herbal inhaler, literature studies also revealed that existing products’ visual still does not represent Gen Z identity. These conditions open the opportunity to design self-care culture-based jewelry with primary considerations, such as integrating herbal inhalers into multisensory jewelry, developing safe and comfortable multisensory mechanisms, and creating visual designs that match the needs and design preferences of Gen Z. The methods used are design thinking, surveys and in-depth interview with Gen Z users in Indonesia, AIO analysis, interviews with jewelry manufacturers, and trend forecasting using the REAR method. The design resulted in jewelry design as a relaxation medium that was implemented in necklaces, bracelets, and rings with multisensory integration. The designs combine olfactory stimulation through herbal inhaler integration with visual stimulation using relaxing colors and patterns tailored for Gen Z.
