Abstract

The marble processing industry in Tulungagung generates large amounts of waste, specifically marble powder residue, which has not yet been optimally utilized and has the potential to cause environmental pollution. This study aims to explore the characteristics of marble powder residue through the design of biophilic planting products for the hospitality sector. The method used is Material-Driven Design (MDD), which includes field observations, literature reviews, material experiments, and the product design process. Experiments were conducted by mixing marble powder with specific binding agents to test the feasibility of its mechanical properties, visual appearance, and surface texture. The results of this exploration were then applied to the design of biophilic planting intended to create an interactive experience with natural elements through the tactile qualities of the material, natural vegetation, and scent within hospitality spaces. This research is expected to add value to marble industry waste while supporting the application of sustainability principles in hospitality product design
