Abstract
Kegiatan magang dilaksanakan di PT Petrokimia Gresik, Departemen Produksi IIB, sebagai bagian dari pemenuhan kurikulum Program Studi Teknologi Rekayasa Kimia Industri, Fakultas Vokasi, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember. Pelaksanaan magang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap penerapan ilmu teknik kimia di industri serta berpartisipasi dalam penyelesaian permasalahan proses melalui pendekatan trouble shooting dan problem solving. Selama pelaksanaan magang, dilakukan pengamatan dan analisis pada unit produksi NPK Granulasi IV, meliputi perhitungan neraca massa dan neraca energi pada beberapa peralatan utama, seperti cooler, granulator, dan dryer. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi termal cooler, granulator, dan dryer masing-masing sebesar 98%, 68,81%, dan 80,51%. Selain itu, dilakukan kajian keselamatan proses menggunakan metode Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) pada unit dryer (B-120) untuk mengidentifikasi potensi bahaya, penyebab, konsekuensi, serta rekomendasi mitigasi risiko pada kondisi operasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, unit granulator memiliki efisiensi termal paling rendah sehingga berpotensi menjadi fokus utama dalam upaya peningkatan efisiensi energi pada proses produksi. Sementara itu, hasil HAZOP menunjukkan perlunya penguatan sistem interlock, pengendalian temperatur, dan pemantauan kondisi operasi untuk meminimalkan risiko gangguan proses dan kecelakaan kerja. Kegiatan magang ini memberikan pengalaman praktis mengenai operasi industri pupuk, evaluasi kinerja proses, serta penerapan aspek keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja di lingkungan industri kimia.

The internship program was conducted at PT Petrokimia Gresik, Production Department IIB, as part of the curriculum requirements of the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program, Faculty of Vocations, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember. This internship aimed to enhance students' understanding of the application of chemical engineering principles in industrial settings and to provide practical experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities. During the internship, observations and analyses were carried out in the NPK Granulation IV production unit, including mass and energy balance calculations for several major equipment units, namely the cooler, granulator, and dryer. The analysis results indicated that the thermal efficiencies of the cooler, granulator, and dryer were 98%, 68.81%, and 80.51%, respectively. In addition, a process safety assessment was performed using the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) method on the dryer unit (B-120) to identify potential hazards, causes, consequences, and mitigation recommendations under operating conditions. Based on the analysis, the granulator exhibited the lowest thermal efficiency and, therefore, represents the primary target for future energy efficiency improvements within the production process. Furthermore, the HAZOP study highlighted the necessity of strengthening interlock systems, temperature control, and operational monitoring to minimize process disruptions and occupational safety risks. Overall, this internship provided valuable practical experience in fertilizer plant operations, process performance evaluation, and the implementation of occupational health and process safety practices in the chemical industry.
