Abstract

Presentase wanita sebagai tenaga kerja formal mengalami peningkatan selama 4 tahun terkahir. Menurut data dari Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Indonesia, presentase peningaktan mencapai 36,66% pada tahun 2025. Peningkatan ini menunjukkan adanya pergeseran peran wanita dalam sektor sosial dan ekonomi. Sehingga semakin banyak yang mulai merujuk pada dunia profesional. Kondisi ini membuka kesempatan wanita untuk berkarier secara profesional. Hal ini berdampak pada kebutuhan representasi elegansi dan citra profesional melalui penampilan. Pada konteks fesyen, sepatu bukan hanya sebagai pelindung alas kaki, namun juga produk fesyen yang dapat membangun identitas diri penggunanya. Loafers bermaterial suede menjadi pilihan sepatu kerja wanita yang nyaman, formal, fleksibel dan elegan. Namun pengembangan Surface Design pada upper Loafers bermaterial suede masih terbatas karena sejuah ini masih berfokus pada aspek mekanik dan manufaktur. Hal ini menimbulkan kesenjangan antara kebutuhan repesentasi elegansi dengan kenyamanan pada wanita profesional. Kondisi ini memberikan peluang untuk mengembangkan Surface Design melalui material suede pada upper Loafers sebagai bentuk pendekatan citra elegasi bagi wanita profesional. Pengembangan Surface Design ini berbasis Teknik Tapestry Embroidery yang menghasilkan elemen berdimensi padat dan bertekstur tanpa mengubah fleksibilitas dan karakteristik dari material suede . Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode practice-based research dan pendekatan eksplorasi Teknik Tapestry Embroidery sebagai Surface Design suede. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dalam mengembangkan Surface Design pada material suede melalui teknik Tapestry Embroidery dan membuka peluang eksplorasi upper Loafers bagi wanita profesional.

The percentage of women in the formal workforce has increased over the past four years. According to data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the increase is projected to reach 36.66% by 2025. This increase indicates a shift in women's roles in the social and economic sectors. As a result, more women are beginning to transition to the professional world. This situation opens up opportunities for women to pursue professional careers. This impacts the need to represent elegance and a professional image through appearance. In the fashion context, shoes are not only footwear protection but also fashion products that can build the wearer's identity. Suede Loafers are a comfortable, formal, flexible, and elegant choice of women's work shoes. However, the development of Surface Design on suede loafer uppers is still limited because so far it has focused on mechanical and manufacturing aspects. This creates a gap between the need to represent elegance and comfort for professional women. This condition provides an opportunity to develop Surface Design through suede material on loafer uppers as a form of approach to the image of elegance for professional women. The development of this Surface Design is based on the Tapestry Embroidery Technique which produces solid and textured dimensional elements without changing the flexibility and characteristics of the suede material. The method used in this research is the practice-based research method and the exploration approach of the Tapestry Embroidery Technique as a suede Surface Design. Thus, this research contributes to the development of Surface Design on suede material through the Tapestry Embroidery technique and opens up opportunities for exploring upper Loafers for professional women.
