Abstract

Industri fast fashion telah meningkatkan jumlah limbah tekstil, termasuk limbah celana jeans yang masih memiliki potensi untuk dimanfaatkan kembali melalui konsep upcycle. Di sisi lain, produk tas upcycle yang beredar di pasaran, khususnya pada UMKM, umumnya masih menggunakan teknik jahit konvensional dan teknik pecah pola sehingga belum memiliki diferensiasi desain. Permasalahan tersebut mendorong perlunya inovasi pengembangan produk melalui penerapan teknik smock sebagai manipulasi permukaan tekstil yang memiliki potensi untuk dieksplorasi dan diaplikasikan dalam desain tas serta kombinasi material 3D Print untuk menghasilkan produk yang memiliki nilai kebaruan desain. Metode yang digunakan dalam perancangan meliputi studi literatur, observasi lapangan, wawancara, penyebaran kuesioner, analisis pasar dan competitor, analisis kebutuhan pengguna, eksplorasi material limbah celana jeans, eksplorasi motif batik Indonesia menjadi motif smock, eksperimen teknik smock pada kain denim, serta pengembangan konsep desain hingga pembuatan prototipe dan user testing. Penelitian ini mengacu pada konsep fesyen berkelanjutan dan tren RECODE 2026/2027 dengan mengombinasikan teknologi manufaktur digital melalui material 3D Print. Penelitian ini berupaya menghasilkan tas berbahan limbah celana jeans dengan penerapan teknik smock bermotif batik Indonesia dan struktur rangka maupun handle berbahan 3D Print. Produk yang dihasilkan memiliki karakter modern, bertekstur, dan inovatif, serta mampu meningkatkan nilai dan daya saing limbah denim menjadi produk fesyen yang bernilai tinggi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi teknik smock, material 3D Print, dan konsep upcycle dapat menjadi alternatif pengembangan produk yang mendukung penerapan fesyen berkelanjutan sekaligus mengurangi limbah tekstil.

The fast fashion industry has increased the volume of textile waste, including discarded jeans that hold potential for reuse through upcycling. However, upcycled bags currently on the market—particularly those from MSMEs—often rely on conventional sewing and pattern-drafting techniques, resulting in a lack of design differentiation. This issue highlights the need for product innovation by applying smocking techniques—a form of textile surface manipulation ripe for exploration in bag design—combined with 3D-printed elements to create products with novel design appeal. The design methodology encompasses literature reviews, field observations, interviews, surveys, market and competitor analysis, user needs assessment, exploration of waste denim materials, adaptation of Indonesian batik motifs into smocking patterns, experimentation with smocking techniques on denim fabric, and the progression from design conceptualization to prototyping and user testing. Grounded in sustainable fashion principles and the RECODE 2026/2027 trend forecast, the study integrates digital manufacturing technology via 3D-printed components. The project aims to produce bags made from waste denim featuring Indonesian batik-inspired smocking and 3D-printed structural frames or handles. The resulting product is modern, textured, and innovative, effectively elevating the value and competitiveness of waste denim into a high-value fashion item. The study demonstrates that integrating smocking techniques, 3D-printed materials, and upcycling concepts offers a viable product development alternative that supports sustainable fashion while simultaneously reducing textile waste.
