Abstract

Arsitektur Naratif berbasis literatur digunakan sebagai kerangka konseptual untuk mengeksplorasi dan mengimajinasikan kembali kontrol spasial berbasis gender di kampung pesisir Indonesia. Dengan teori gendered space, perancangan ini menganalisis bagaimana pengaturan ruang, sirkulasi, dan akses lebih menguntungkan laki-laki dan memberi mereka kontrol spasial, sementara perempuan terisolasi di area domestik yang kurang dihargai dan kurang produktif sehingga membatasi mobilitas dan perkembangan. Untuk menguji hal tersebut, perancangan ini menggunakan literatur sebagai thought experiment dengan menjadikan novel I Who Have Never Known Men karya Jacqueline Harpman sebagai premis naratif. Premis novel tersebut, perempuan yang bertahan hidup dan mengatur ulang ruang tanpa kehadiran laki-laki, diparalelkan dengan skenario spekulatif kontekstual: bagaimana jika laki-laki menghilang dari ruang yang sebelumnya didominasi laki-laki? Skenario ini mengimajinasikan ulang realita tersembunyi di kampung pesisir, di mana Arsitektur Naratif digunakan sebagai alat untuk menerjemahkan premis novel ke dalam desain arsitektural. Dengan prinsip thinking dan imagining dalam Arsitektur Naratif, perancangan ini menggabungkan interpretasi imajinatif dengan spekulasi perancangan untuk menampilkan kemungkinan/alternatif yang bertujuan untuk penghapusan kontrol spasial. Maka dari itu, metafora digunakan untuk membantu proses interpretasi imajinatif yang akan menghasilkan permukiman berbasis literatur yang berpusat pada perempuan, di mana ruang diatur ulang melampaui kontrol spasial.

Literary-based Narrative Architecture as a conceptual framework is used to explore and reimagine gendered spatial control in Indonesian coastal kampungs. With the theory of gendered spaces, this design analyzes how spatial arrangement, circulation, and access have privileged men and put spatial control to them while confining women to undervalued, domestic, and less productive zones, limiting mobility and growth. To challenge it, this design uses literature as a thought experiment by using Jacqueline Harpman’s I Who Have Never Known Men as the narrative premise. The novel’s premise, survival and reorganization of women in the absence of men, becomes a parallel to a contextual speculative what-if scenario: what if men with power disappeared from a once male-dominated space? This scenario reimagines hidden realities within coastal kampungs, where Narrative Architecture is used as a tool to translate the novel's premise into architectural design. With the principles of thinking and imagining in Narrative Architecture, this design combines imaginative thinking interpretation with speculative design to feature possibility/alternative in a grounded reality of retake of spatial control. Then, metaphor is used to help imaginative interpretation process that support the outcome of a female-centered, literary-based settlement where spaces are reorganized beyond spatial control.
