Abstract

Ceramic tableware quality is determined by several characteristics simultaneously, so the conventional Single Quality Characteristic approach in Six Sigma is insufficient. This study aims to improve the production capability of ceramic tableware through the DMAIC framework, focusing on the Dust Press process for Flat Plate products. The Define stage identified five Critical Quality Characteristics (CQC): Diameter, Height, Weight, Physical Strength, and Surface Quality. The Measure stage, based on 4,520 units produced with 110 units lost, Yielded a DPMO of 4,867, a Sigma Level of 4.09σ, and a Yield of 97.57%, with Cp of 1.36 and Cpk of 0.86 derived from the Sigma Level. Pairwise Comparison weighting (Consistency Ratio 0.076) established Diameter and Height as the top priorities, accounting for 68.63% of the cumulative weight. In the Analyze stage, a One-Sample Proportion Test showed the actual Defect Rate (2.43%) differed significantly from the internal threshold of 2.0% (p = 0.043), while Chi-Square tests showed no significant association between Defect status and Operator (p = 0.936) or Shift (p = 1.000). Triangulation of statistical and mechanistic evidence identified die wear as the most plausible dominant factor for Diameter, and mechanical stroke calibration error for Height. The Improve stage formulated twelve improvement alternatives consolidated into four recommendation groups, while the Control stage produced a conceptual Control Plan for all five CQC. This research contributes by integrating Multi Quality Characteristics evaluation, Pairwise Comparison, and dominant factor identification within a single DMAIC framework for the ceramic tableware industry.
