Abstract

Parameter yang dianalisis meliputi suhu, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), nitrat (NO₃), dan fosfat (PO₄).

Water quality monitoring is generally conducted through physicochemical parameter measurements; however, this approach does not fully describe the biological impacts of pollutants on aquatic organisms. This study aims to evaluate the water quality of water bodies within the Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), based on physicochemical parameters, the Pollution Index (PI), and toxicity tests using *Daphnia magna* and *Branchinella thailandensis*. Water samples were collected from the river at the Department of Biology and from ponds at the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The parameters analyzed included temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), nitrate (NO₃), and phosphate (PO₄). Water quality status was determined using the Pollution Index method based on Government Regulation (PP) No. 22 of 2021, Appendix IV, while toxicity tests were conducted over 72 hours by observing mortality and morphological abnormalities in the test organisms. The results showed that temperature, pH, TSS, and nitrate met the applicable water quality standards, whereas DO, BOD, and phosphate exceeded the standards at all sampling sites. Based on the Pollution Index, all sites were classified as moderately to heavily polluted under Class III standards, but only lightly polluted under Class IV standards. The toxicity tests revealed increased mortality and various morphological abnormalities in both test organisms, with *Branchinella thailandensis* exhibiting greater sensitivity than *Daphnia magna*. The occurrence of these morphological abnormalities indicates that the biological responses of the organisms were influenced not only by the measured physicochemical parameters but also by other contaminants potentially present in the water samples. Therefore, combining physicochemical water quality analysis with bioassays provides a more comprehensive assessment of water body quality than relying solely on physicochemical parameters.
