Abstract

Brine fluid at PT Geo Dipa Energi Dieng Unit contains a high silica concentration of approximately 846 ppm, making it susceptible to silica scale formation within the piping system. This study aims to analyze the effect of temperature on silica scale formation and to estimate the predictive maintenance interval based on the thickness of the accumulated scale. The research methodology includes calculations of silica solubility, the amount of precipitated silica, and the silica scaling rate using temperature data, silica concentration, fluid flow rate, and pipe dimensions. The results indicate that a decrease in temperature reduces silica solubility, thereby increasing the amount of precipitated silica. The calculated scaling rate was 0.432 mm/day, equivalent to 15.77 cm/year. Based on this rate, the silica scale thickness is estimated to reach the allowable limit of 8 cm after approximately 186 days of operation. These findings demonstrate that the silica scaling rate can serve as a basis for determining predictive maintenance schedules to maintain piping system reliability and prevent operational disruptions.
