Abstract

Developments in healthcare services require hospitals to not only function as healing facilities but also to provide a comfortable experience for patients. Budi Kemuliaan General Hospital, a general hospital specializing in maternal and child care, faces the challenge of enhancing its image and competitiveness, particularly in its 6th-floor inpatient facility, which has seen a decline in patient numbers. This situation highlights the need to improve the quality of the physical environment and the user experience. This final project aims to redesign the interior of the 6th floor of RSU Budi Kemuliaan using a Patient-Centered Design approach to enhance the patient experience. The method employed is Design Thinking, which includes the stages of empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and test, with data collection through observation, literature review, and user interviews, as well as validation of the design results during the test stage. The design also adheres to applicable hospital standards, such as Ministry of Health regulations and Presidential Regulations regarding facilities and inpatient rooms. This concept resulted in an interior design focused on comfort, efficient circulation, and support for the healing process through the application of Healing Environment elements, the selection of hygienic materials, and the use of soothing colors and lighting. Additionally, the design took into account the needs of various users—including patients, families, and medical staff—to create a space that is both functional and human-centered. The implementation of Patient-Centered Design in this final project thus supports the improvement of the quality of the patient experience through an interior environment tailored to users’ needs, while also strengthening the image of Budi Kemuliaan Hospital as a user-oriented hospital.
