Abstract

Sustainable tourism is a strategic approach to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in destinations based on natural and cultural resources. Ijen Geopark in Bondowoso Regency possesses high geowisata potential through its geological diversity, volcanic landscape, and distinctive local culture. To support the development of this area, sustainable tourist accommodation plays an essential role. Catimor Homestay is a historical building from the colonial era that holds significant heritage value. However, its existing interior conditions have not fully reflected sustainability principles and local identity. This study aims to design the interior of Catimor Homestay using a Sustainable Heritage approach, integrating the preservation of historical and cultural values with environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles. The design methods include a literature review, field observation, contextual analysis of the Ijen Geopark area, ecomuseum development, and the Narrative Design method, which adopts local culture and the coffee production process as the basis for shaping spatial experience. The proposed design is to create a functional, comfortable, environmentally responsible interior that reflects local identity while supporting educational geowisata experiences and enhancing the competitiveness of sustainable tourism in Bondowoso.
