Abstract
Mikroplastik mengancam ekosistem perairan global, termasuk Indonesia. Spons laut (Porifera) berpotensi sebagai bioindikator karena sifat filter feeder sesil. Penelitian ini menganalisis akumulasi mikroplastik pada tiga spesies spons (Haliclona caerulea, H. cymaeformis, H. koremella) dan potensinya sebagai bioindikator di Pantai Jembatan Panjang, Malang Selatan.
Sampel spons (minimal 20 g berat basah yang dikoleksi dan 1 g berat kering yang digunakan) dan air laut diambil bersamaan dari zona intertidal bawah. Identifikasi spons dilakukan secara morfologi dengan menggunakan buku identifikasi dari van Hooper dan literatur terkait. Preparasi menggunakan oksidasi H₂O₂ 30% dan filtrasi vakum. Karakterisasi mikroplastik (bentuk, ukuran, warna) dengan mikroskop stereo, konfirmasi polimer dengan ATR-FTIR.
Hasil menunjukkan semua sampel mengandung mikroplastik. Kelimpahan tertinggi pada H. cymaeformis (106,8 partikel/g), diikuti H. koremella (90), H. caerulea (76,4), dan air laut (51,2 partikel/L). Mikroplastik didominasi bentuk fragmen, ukuran 0–20 µm, dan warna biru. ATR-FTIR mengonfirmasi polimer Acrylamide/DADMAC Copolymer dan Sodium Polyacrylate. Nilai BAF mengklasifikasikan Haliclona cymaeformis sebagai Macroconcentrator (2,09), sedangkan Haliclona koremella (1,76) dan Haliclona caerulea (1,49) sebagai Micro-concentrator. Ketiga spons memiliki kapasitas bioakumulasi tinggi dan berpotensi sebagai bioindikator pencemaran mikroplastik.

Microplastics threaten global aquatic ecosystems, including Indonesia. Marine sponges (Porifera) are potential bioindicators due to their sessile filter-feeding nature. This study analyzed microplastic accumulation in three sponge species (Haliclona caerulea, H. cymaeformis, H. koremella) and their bioindicator potential at Jembatan Panjang Beach, South Malang.
Sponge samples (minimum 20 g wet weight collected and 1 g dry weight used) and seawater were collected simultaneously from the lower intertidal zone. Sponge identification was conducted morphologically using identification books from van Hooper and related literature. Preparation used 30% H₂O₂ oxidation and vacuum filtration. Microplastic characterization (shape, size, color) was performed using a stereo microscope, while polymer confirmation was conducted using ATR-FTIR.
Results showed all samples contained microplastics. The highest abundance was found in H. cymaeformis (106.8 particles/g), followed by H. koremella (90), H. caerulea (76.4), and seawater (51.2 particles/L). Microplastics were dominated by fragment shape, 0–20 µm size, and blue color. ATR-FTIR confirmed Acrylamide/DADMAC Copolymer and Sodium Polyacrylate polymers. BAF values classified Haliclona cymaeformis as a Macro-concentrator (2.09), while Haliclona koremella (1.76) and Haliclona caerulea (1.49) were classified as Micro-concentrators. All three sponges have high bioaccumulation capacity and potential as bioindicators of microplastic pollution.
