Abstract

Architectural practices generally only treat local cultural richness, such as woven fabrics, as limited to visual displays or building ornaments. This pattern of perspective that dominates sight alone (ocularcentrism) causes space to lose its emotional dimension because it only focuses on visuals. This design explores the other side of the representation of woven fabrics to be translated into the spatial experience of a retreat facility formed through sensory experience and sequentially constructed with the concept of weaving the senses. The narrative integrates elements such as physical object representations and spatial representations to convey how the building will speak through the interactions, feelings and movements of retreat users. Multisensory helps restore architecture to its human dimension by stimulating the user's emotional awareness. By applying this method and approach, the proposed design aims to create a retreat that is able to reject the bias of ocularcentrism, where this study highlights the potential of architectural design in influencing users' emotions in the hope that users will feel that architecture is a weaving experience.
