Abstract

The Kedurus River plays an important role in the drainage system of western Surabaya City. River normalization to restore flow capacity has the potential to change the cross-sectional geometry, thereby affecting the stability of the riverbank slopes. This study analyzes the effect of normalization on the river's flow capacity using HEC-RAS simulation, the safety factor (SF) value of the existing slope after normalization at the critical cross-section, as well as the safety factor value against penetration depth (SF embedment) of Corrugated Concrete Sheet Pile (CCSP) reinforcement at that cross-section. All analyses were reviewed under several variations of water surface elevation. These water surface elevation variations are empty (dry condition), Flood Water Level (MAB) with a Q25 flood discharge, and Rapid Drawdown. SF checking was carried out using 2D GeoStudio modeling (SEEP/W and SLOPE/W) for the existing condition, and the Free Earth Support method for the CCSP reinforcement. All geotechnical analyses are based on Bore Log data and Soil Laboratory Test Results (Point B1, Simpang Wiyung Pump House Project). The SF values for the existing condition at the critical cross-section were obtained at 1.038 (empty), 1.279 (MAB), and 0.429 (Rapid Drawdown), so the slope is declared unsafe (SF<1.5) under all conditions. After CCSP reinforcement, the SF embedment values at that cross-section increased to 5.298 (empty), 6.538 (MAB), and 2.965 (Rapid Drawdown), so all conditions are declared safe (SF$\ge$1.5). The analysis results show that normalization successfully increased the flow capacity of all 24 cross-sections (STA K12–K35) so that they are able to convey the Q25 flood discharge of 88.54 m³/s without overflow.
