Abstract

Pemilihan model terbaik dilakukan berdasarkan nilai Sum of Squared Error terkecil.

Life insurance is a financial instrument that plays an important role in providing financial protection against the risk of death. Therefore, the design and management of life insurance products require accurate actuarial calculations, particularly in determining mortality rate assumptions. Life insurance mortality rates are generally established based on one of the standard mortality tables, namely the Indonesian Mortality Table IV (TMI IV). In general, the mortality rates presented in the standard mortality table only represent point estimates that are assumed to be the best estimates but do not fully account for the presence of uncertainty. Based on this, this undergraduate thesis aims to construct confidence intervals for mortality rates using a Monte Carlo simulation approach. The study begins with the estimation of the parameters of the classical mortality models, namely the Gompertz and Makeham models, based on the standard mortality table. The estimation results show that the parameters of the Makeham model for the male TMI IV are estimated as A = 0.000305662, B = 0.000268562, and c = 1.099107, while those for the female TMI IV are estimated as A = 0.000187166, B = 0.000188075, and c = 1.100131. The best model is selected based on the smallest Sum of Squared Error value. The evaluation results indicate that the Makeham model provides the best fit to the mortality data, with a Sum of Squared Error value of 5.1052 for the male standard mortality table and 2.5334 for the female standard mortality table. The Makeham model is then used as the basis for the Monte Carlo simulation to generate the probability distribution of death and construct confidence intervals for mortality rates at several confidence levels. The results show that the smaller the significance level (alpha), the wider the resulting confidence intervals for mortality rates. This condition causes the range of premium values and the present value of life insurance benefits to become wider. Conversely, the larger the value of alpha, the narrower the confidence intervals for mortality rates, resulting in a narrower range of premium values and present values of life insurance benefits.
