Abstract

Biophilic design is a design approach that integrates natural elements into the built environment to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life of its users. Various studies show that this approach can reduce stress, support the recovery process, improve cognitive function, and enhance quality of life by creating a healthier and more restorative environment. This approach is particularly relevant for worker housing dominated by Generation Z workers, as this group is more vulnerable to mental health issues. Additionally, Generation Z tends to place greater emphasis on mental health, the quality of their living environment, spatial flexibility, and the balance between the need for privacy and social interaction. However, most existing worker housing is currently focused solely on fulfilling the basic function of providing shelter. This design aims to create worker housing that supports the health and productivity of its residents through a biophilic design approach. The method used in the design is contextbased design to produce a design that is more attuned to the site conditions and the residents’ needs. The designed housing integrates green open spaces, natural lighting and ventilation, visual and non-visual connections with nature, as well as communal spaces that foster social interaction among residents. This design is expected to create a restorative living environment that supports the health, well-being, and productivity of workers.
