Abstract

This Final Report on the Architectural Professional Education Program (PPAr) includes two design projects: the Design of Boys Dormitories for Junior High and High Schools (Typical) in the Jombang Regency Public School System and the Design of the Pamulang Residential House in South Tangerang. The Boys’ Dormitory design aims to provide communal housing facilities for students to support the Rakyat’s boarding-school-based system, while the Pamulang Residential House aims to provide housing that is responsive to the microclimate through a sustainable modern tropical architectural design approach. The design process involved collecting data from the Terms of Reference, client brief, regulations, and architectural standards, which were then analyzed to develop the design concept. The result of the Boys’ Dormitory Putra is a two-story communal residence with a capacity of 138 students, incorporating sustainable tropical architecture through the exploration of massing arrangements based on a courtyard layout, the use of local materials such as exposed brick and clay louvers, and the stack effect to optimize natural lighting and air circulation. Pamulang House is designed as a residence that applies the concept of passively cooled architecture through an open-plan zoning scheme, a combination of minimalist facades, a swimming pool as a natural cooling element, and a cantilevered structure to create a home that is integrated with nature. Both projects employ a design approach that is responsive to user needs, building functions, and the environmental context.
