Abstract

Batu City has significant tourism potential. However, its development has not yet been fully optimized due to transportation-related challenges, particularly traffic congestion and the limited availability of an integrated public transportation system. One of the major tourism infrastructure projects currently being planned is a tourist cable car system. However, the proposed station locations currently lack adequate accessibility and connectivity to the existing angkutan kota network. In line with the city's development planning documents, the development of angkutan kota routes provides an opportunity to be integrated with the proposed cable car system by considering the existing potentials and transportation challenges.
This study aims to develop alternative angkutan kota routes integrated with the planned cable car stations to support sustainable tourism. The research employs the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the weights of route selection factors based on stakeholder assessments. The resulting weights are then incorporated into a spatial scoring approach to model the optimal routes by considering land use characteristics, travel patterns, road network characteristics, and service coverage. The results of the study identified five of the most optimal alternative routes passing through Batu District and Junrejo District, which spatially and operationally are capable of reaching the cable car station while considering the geometric constraints of mountainous roads. The five routes have a length interval of 13.2-18 km and a travel time interval of 26.4-36.4 minutes.. These routes are recommended as feeder services connecting transport terminals with major tourism activity centers while also supporting residents daily mobility through improved connectivity to essential public facilities. Integrating angkutan kota with the proposed cable car system through route optimization has the potential to improve accessibility to the cable car stations and provides a strategic solution for supporting the sustainability of the tourism transportation system.
