Abstract

This study aims to optimize the design of a block ice factory on Bungin Island, Sumbawa Regency, to support fishermen’s ice demand and reduce dependence on ice supplies from outside the island. The optimization is carried out using two objective functions: maximizing ice production capacity and minimizing energy costs through the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) approach. The data used include fishermen’s ice demand, technical specifications of commercial block ice machines, and solar energy potential for the implementation of Floating Photovoltaic (FPV) systems. The method used is the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), with objective weighting using the Entropy and CRITIC methods. The analysis results show that Bungin Island has adequate solar energy potential to support an FPV system as an additional energy source for the ice factory. In the machine optimization stage, the DK80 type achieves the highest ranking and consistently becomes the preferred alternative under both weighting methods. The combined optimization of machine and energy systems shows that the combination of the DK80 machine with a PLN–FPV electricity supply scenario provides the best balance among production capacity, energy demand, and investment cost. The sensitivity analysis shows relatively stable ranking results, indicating that the selected alternative is feasible to serve as the basis for designing a block ice factory on Bungin Island.
