Abstract
Olahraga kini berkembang menjadi kebutuhan mendasar bagi masyarakat, seiring meningkatnya kesadaran akan pentingnya kesehatan fisik dan mental pasca pandemi COVID-19 yang turut mendorong perubahan gaya hidup ke arah yang lebih aktif dan terstruktur. Tren ini turut mendorong peningkatan aktivitas olahraga di Kabupaten Gresik, yang ditunjukkan melalui bertambahnya jumlah atlet yang berpartisipasi pada Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (Porprov) Jawa Timur dari tahun ke tahun. Wahana Ekspresi Poesponegoro (WEP) sebagai salah satu gedung olahraga multifungsi milik Pemerintah Daerah Kabupaten Gresik yang dimanfaatkan untuk kegiatan olahraga, maupun kegiatan formal oleh masyarakat Gresik. Namun, berdasarkan hasil observasi dan wawancara yang dilakukan pada tahun 2026. Ditemukan permasalahan pada aspek pemanfaatan ruang dan kualitas interior yang kurang optimal, di mana aktivitas pada gedung tersebut cenderung berpusat pada kegiatan berskala besar sehingga gedung tidak kerap aktif digunakan harian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang desain interior lapangan indoor WEP Gresik dengan pendekatan placemaking melalui optimalisasi sport center. Pendekatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan frekuensi kunjungan, durasi aktivitas, serta keberagaman kegiatan yang berlangsung di dalamnya bedasarkan gaya hidup masyarakat era Society 5.0 yang mengintegrasikan aspek fisik, mental, dan sosial. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode design thinking yang meliputi tahapan empati, definisi masalah, ideasi, prototipe, dan pengujian. Berdasarkan hasil perancangan dan validasi desain, redesain interior mampu meningkatkan kualitas dan fungsi Wahana Ekspresi Poesponegoro (WEP) sebagai gedung olahraga multifungsi yang mengakomodasi berbagai aktivitas masyarakat secara lebih fleksibel, nyaman, dan representatif. Redesain ini juga memperkuat peran WEP sebagai destinasi aktivitas harian masyarakat sekaligus meningkatkan eksistensinya sebagai salah satu ikon Kota Gresik.

Sports have increasingly become a fundamental necessity for society, driven by growing awareness of the importance of physical and mental health following the COVID-19 pandemic, which has encouraged a shift toward a more active and structured lifestyle. This trend has also contributed to the growth of sports activities in Gresik Regency, as reflected in the increasing number of athletes participating in the East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) each year. Wahana Ekspresi Poesponegoro (WEP), one of the multifunctional sports facilities owned by the Government of Gresik Regency, is utilized for sports activities as well as formal community events. However, based on observations and interviews conducted in 2026, several issues were identified regarding space utilization and interior quality. The facility's activities are predominantly concentrated on large-scale events, resulting in limited daily utilization. This study aims to redesign the interior of the WEP indoor sports hall by applying a placemaking approach to optimize its function as a sports center. This approach is intended to increase visit frequency, activity duration, and the diversity of activities accommodated within the facility in response to the lifestyle characteristics of Society 5.0, which integrates physical, mental, and social well-being. The research employed the Design Thinking method, consisting of the stages of empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. Based on the design outcomes and validation results, the proposed interior redesign improves the quality and functionality of Wahana Ekspresi Poesponegoro (WEP) as a multifunctional sports facility capable of accommodating a wider range of community activities in a more flexible, comfortable, and representative environment. Furthermore, the redesign reinforces WEP's role as a daily community destination while strengthening its identity as one of the landmarks of Gresik Regency.
