Abstract

The Septage Treatment Plant (STP) of Semarang City was designed to treat sludge with a capacity of 75 cubic meters per day. At present, the STP is operated at a capacity (Q) of 40 cubic meters per day, or approximately 53.34% of the design capacity. Nevertheless, sludge accumulation has occurred in the stabilization pond units as a result of sedimentation in each pond. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the design of all treatment units in relation to the quantity of septage entering the STP and the quality of the effluent produced.
The method used in this study involved laboratory tests, field surveys, and interviews with institutions responsible for managing the STP in order to obtain primary and secondary data. Based on the data obtained, technical, financial, and institutional aspects were examined.
The results of the analysis show that the amount of sludge deposited is 6.64 cubic meters per day and is not removed continuously, which ultimately causes sludge accumulation. Technically, the system is still capable of treating septage according to its design capacity. Optimization is carried out by removing sludge from the system, adding an Imhoff tank, and installing a sludge pump to transfer the sludge to the sludge drying unit.
