Abstract

PT. ART is a company that operates in the printing industry. Its core business is label printing (Letterpress and Offset) with the type of order being a job order. Based on the performance review data in 2005, it can be concluded that the customers' problem, in perspective, is on-time delivery, which is very low, 55.52%, and the internal perspective, that is, the uncontrolled finishing time of production entirely. For this reason, the research has been made to get a scheduling model that could increase the company's performance according to its ability to make a printing process.

The production-scheduling model that will be developed in this research is the job shop model with three alternatives of sequencing. The research needs to make identification steps for jobs, item master, determine routing master, resource, determine the standard time of each job operation. Then, the next step is determining shop days, logic and algorithm. The last step is to apply the scheduling with the assistance of Excel software. From the application result, it resulted in an optimal value that could be made as a conclusion in achieving the goal of scheduling in a certain period.

The result of scheduling application with three alternative rules: First Come First Served (FCFS), Earliest Due Date (EDD), Shortest Processing Time (SPT) confirms the large differences if compared with the actual condition that ranges between 23.3% till 39.9% for the process of Offset, 21.8% till 28.2% for the process of UV letterpress, 13.4% till 17.45% for non-UV letterpress, and 19.9% for letterpress solvent. According to the company's characteristics with the type of order being a job order and referring to the average unit number per order that comes in, and the length of operational steps for a job order, the appropriate scheduling from the three alternative rules is Earliest Due Date (EDD).

The research was conducted to get a scheduling model for improving performance that is relevant to the process capability in PT. ART.

The production scheduling model that will be developed for the research is production scheduling job shop with 3 alternative sequencing rules. For this research, identification of jobs, item master, routing master, resource, and standard time for operation is needed. The next step determines shop days, logic and algorithm. And the last step is the application of scheduling with Excel software. The result from the application is an optimal value that becomes the purpose of scheduling for a specific period.

The result of the application with 3 alternative rules, First Come First Served (FCFS), Earliest Due Date (EDD), Shortest Processing Time (SPT), explains that there is a large gap if compared with the actual condition, ranging from 23.3% up to 39.9% on offset press, 21.8% to 28.2% on UV letterpress, 13.4% to 17.45% on non-UV letterpress, and 19.0% on letterpress solvent. Relevant to the company's characteristics with the job type and appropriate average order trend that has a great quantity and long processing steps, scheduling Earliest Due Date (EDD) is most suitable.
