Abstract

Cylinder liner is one of the products resulting from centrifugal casting. Centrifugal casting is a process of pouring liquid metal into a rotary mold. In application, the cylinder liner functions to protect the cylinder block, so it must have high wear resistance. Cylinder liners are produced using centrifugal casting methods. The chemical composition of the liquid metal greatly influences the quality of the cylinder liner product, including its hardness number and the visual appearance of the casting product. In this case, the material used is gray cast iron with JIS standard FC 25 (tensile strength 25 kg/mm²). This research aims to analyze the influence of Carbon Equivalent on the hardness, microstructure, and visualization of the BM 08 cylinder liner to determine the most appropriate composition for BM 08 centrifugal casting. The results show that the chemical composition variation for the BM 08 cylinder liner is 3.1 <= C < 3.30% and 2.2 <= Si <= 2.40%, with a carbon equivalent of 3.87 <= CE <= 3.99%, featuring type A graphite characteristics, a pearlitic matrix, a hardness number of 216-294 BHN, making the product more economical and efficient.
