Abstract

Production planning is a process to determine resources of company that will be used to produce goods in future on the specified quantity and quality with minimum expense. To carry out the production planning when purchasing component or material, Material Requirement Planning (MRP) is used, which the capacity is regarded to be unlimited. The used MRP system does not limit the quantity demand, so that the produced unit quantity at each time bucket always varies.
Lot Bucket MRP (LMRP) is an alternative method of MRP system. This method introduces distributed demand into fixed lot size with interval time that is divided into two lots. The lot size is determined based on the average demand for one horizon of time. LMRP method contains two ways for using the appendix table and the approximate time formulation. For the obtained data are demand quantity data, therefore in this study the LMRP method is conducted by using the approximate time formulation.
The result showed that the lot size of production based on the average demand for a year using LMRP method with approximate time formulation were as follow 27 units for BDB type, 46 units for BCC type, 53 units for CBCC type, 28 units for HB type and 44 units for New HB type. Table used by LMRP method is much more different to one the MRP system used. This is due to different time unit used in LMRP method and MRP system. The LMRP method showed that this method tries to manage times when a lot should have begun and when a lot should have been received.
