Abstract

Ketika parameter Q semakin besar, intensitas modulasi I₁/I₀ mengalami perubahan yang sangat kecil ke arah reduksi.

A method has been applied to determine the acoustic radiation pattern of an acousto-optic modulator and deflector by measuring the intensity of diffracted light. The acousto-optic device consists of a small block of crystal or glass serving as the acousto-optic material, to which a piezoelectric transducer is bonded. When a voltage modulation is applied to the transducer, an acoustic wave is generated within the acousto-optic medium. Using the acousto-optic device, a coherent light beam from a He-Ne laser (λ = 632.8 nm) can be deflected and modulated. This phenomenon represents the diffraction of an optical wave caused by an acoustic wave. The experiment was conducted by placing a fused quartz acousto-optic crystal on an adjustable (rotatable) sample holder so that the laser beam and the beam directed toward the screen or detector remained fixed. The experiment involved measuring the first-order intensity while varying the angle of incidence. Using simple trigonometry, the angle could be calculated, allowing the acoustic radiation pattern to be observed. The simulation results obtained for the fused quartz crystal show a relationship between the Q parameter and the interaction length L. As L increases, the value of the Q parameter increases, resulting in Q >> 1, which corresponds to the Bragg condition. As the Q parameter increases, the modulation intensity I₁/I₀ undergoes only a slight decrease. The modulation intensity for a crystal with 50% diffraction efficiency is higher than that for a crystal with 30% diffraction efficiency. Furthermore, the crystal operating at an acoustic frequency of 30 MHz has a smaller acoustic wavelength λₐ than the crystal operating at an acoustic frequency of 20 MHz.
