Abstract

One of the continuous distributions in statistics is the Gamma distribution, which can be used to solve many problems in the field of engineering and science. As one example, the Gamma distribution plays an important role in queuing theory and reliability theory, for example, to overcome the loss of data. Talking about the loss of data, there is a question of what can be done by the processor when the data received from memory is incomplete. Without complete data, the processor cannot process as expected. Hence, the processor should be equipped with algorithms or features that can overcome the shortage of data. One of the best ways to address this issue is by estimation. Parameter estimation is done by completing the likelihood function, which is shaped L(α, β | x₍₁₎, x₍₂₎, ..., x₍ₙ₎) = ∏ᵢ₌₁ⁿ [ 1 / Γ(α) ] × [ x^(α-1) / β^α ] × exp(-x / β) so that the Gamma distribution parameters α and β are found. Then, the best estimator is sought that satisfies the Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimator (MVUE) criterion. α and β are unbiased estimators for E(α) and E(β), which yield the parameter values, but after a comparison of variances, α turns out to have the smallest or minimum variance, so that α is the best estimator. Data missing from several Gamma distribution simulation datasets generated from Minitab 14 can be found using the Gamma probability distribution with the help of Maple 10, while the results of the missing data are obtained using the α-probability formula.
