Abstract

In satellite communication, received signal is affected by the direction of earth station antenna, which the maximum signal is obtained when antenna direction angles equal to satellite look angles. Mounted antenna on mobile platform has various look angles according to platform position. To adjust antenna direction angles (azimuth and elevation) to be equal to look angles, the manipulator is needed. In this research, 2 degrees of freedom (2-DOF) robot as manipulator is constructed on the platform and controlled receiver antenna is placed on the end effector. With certain satellite position, the robot controls the azimuth angle and elevation of antenna as response of the platform movement. For robot control purpose, Jacobian inverse control method is applied. For experiment, an object as satellite is used, and platform move straight around the sub-satellite point. From experiment results, if the azimuth angle changes in 0.356°/second, the average error is 0.1665°, and if the elevation changes in 0.044°/second, the average error is 0.1°. In general, the proposed method is applicable for antenna position control system on mobile platform.
