Abstract

Peran user manual sangat penting dalam penyampaian fungsi atau fitur perangkat lunak kepada konsumen. Pernah terdapat sebuah kasus di mana seorang pengembang perangkat lunak melakukan program ulang terhadap aplikasinya karena dokumentasi fungsi yang kurang baik. Terdapat masalah lain yang muncul jika fungsi, fitur, dan cara pemakaian suatu aplikasi tidak didokumentasikan dengan baik. Tugas akhir ini mengambil SLIMS+ sebagai studi kasus pembuatan user manual. SLIMS (Sistem Layanan Informasi Manajemen Sekolah Plus) merupakan aplikasi perpaduan antara sistem informasi akademik dan jejaring sosial yang dikembangkan untuk sebuah yayasan pesantren di Surabaya. SLIMS+ ini dapat memfasilitasi komunikasi terkait tentang hal akademik maupun sosial antara guru, siswa, dan pihak sekolah. Kita tidak dapat hanya dengan menyediakan satu macam user manual sedangkan pengguna produk kita terdiri dari 4 golongan. Masing-masing golongan memiliki karakteristik yang berbeda. Oleh karena itu, user manual untuk tiap golongan juga harus dibuat berbeda. Metode yang digunakan dalam pembuatan dokumen user manual ini adalah melalui studi literatur mengenai penggunaan standar penyajian user manual yang dapat dimengerti oleh stakeholder yang bersangkutan serta mengeksplor fungsi-fungsi fitur pada aplikasi SLIMS+, khususnya pada bagian aplikasi School Social Network. Sedangkan panduan yang digunakan adalah panduan dari IEEE Std 1063-2001. Setelah user manual selesai dibuat, akan dilakukan validasi dan verifikasi untuk menilai apakah user manual tersebut cukup membantu stakeholder dalam memahami tata cara penggunaan aplikasi School Social Network melalui metode group discussion. Hasil dari tugas akhir ini yaitu user manual yang ditujukan untuk salah satu pengguna saja karena ruang lingkup untuk 4 user manual yang berbeda terlalu luas. Dalam tugas akhir ini, user manual yang dibuat adalah user manual untuk guru.

User manual's role is very important for delivering functions and features of application to our consumer. There was a case when a software developer re-program or re-write his application just because lack of software documentation. There will be another problem if we don't provide good documentation for our application's features, functions, usages. This final project takes SLIMS as study case for user manual development. SLIMS+ (Sistem Layanan Informasi Manajemen Sekolah Plus) is a combination between academic information system and social network application which is developed for Islamic school foundation in Surabaya, SLIMS+ will be able to facilitate the communication about academic and social among teachers, students, parents, and school managements. We can't only provide one kind of user manual while our stakeholder consist of four kind of user. Each user has different characteristic. That's why we also need different user manual for each group audience. The used method in this user manual development is by studying the literature about the usage of user manual development standard which can be understood by the users and exploring all functions and features in SLIMS+, especially School Social Network part. The standard used in this final project is the guide from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and IEEE Std 1063-2001. When user manual have been done, validation and verification is needed to determine whether those user manuals are useful enough to help the user using our product via group discussion. The result of this final project is one kind of user manual only because the scope for all kinds of user manual is too wide. In this final project the developed user manual is purposed for teacher only.
