Abstract

Side Scan Sonar (SSS) survey is a method used for seabed mapping and the investigation or detection of objects on the seabed. The product of this method is imagery. Side Scan Sonar images can be used to create a map of seabed features by combining the images through specific processes to form a continuous image (called a mosaic). The mosaic is then interpreted to help map users identify seabed features in the surveyed area.
The basic data consist of Side Scan Sonar images and a bathymetric map of the study area, located in the territorial waters between Batam Island and Bintan Island, Riau Islands. Data processing includes slant-range correction of Side Scan Sonar images, mosaic creation, interpretation of Side Scan Sonar images, identification of potential objects that could endanger submarine cables, and verification of the interpretation results using seabed sample data.
The output of this research is a seabed feature map of the territorial waters between Batam Island and Bintan Island, Riau Islands.
