Abstract

Esterification of acrylic acid with methanol and the reaction of acrylic acid with ethoxy ion have been done with reflux. These methanol and ethoxy ion are the reagents that characteristic as the nucleophile, so it is expected that the reaction will occurr at carbonil and C-beta group from acrylic acid. The yield of the reaction was identificated using gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and infrared spectrometry. The result showed that both esterification of acrylic acid with methanol and the reaction of acrylic acid with ethoxy ion occurred at carbonil carbon.
