Abstract

CuO/H-ZSM-5 catalyst has been used in hydroxylation of benzene with H₂O₂ as the oxidant. H-ZSM-5 was synthesized by hydrothermal process, followed by impregnation of Cu(NO₃)₂.H₂O on H-ZSM-5 to produce CuO/H-ZSM-5 catalyst with CuO loading i.e. 1, 2, 4 and 8% (wt.%). The results of characterization by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy showed that the structure of HZSM-5 is orthorombik with of MFI structure. Among the catalyst studied, 4%CuO/H-ZSM-5 showed the highest conversion (90,69%), while 2%CuO/H-ZSM-5 showed the highest selectivity (71,03%) towards phenol.
