Abstract

=================================================================

Arc Flash is the total energy released when the short circuit . Energy is released through the air flowing into another phase , neutral or flows into the ground. When workers are not equipped with personal protective equipment be near the Arc Flash , it will cause serious injury and even death. Based on the IEEE 1584-2002 standard governing hazard analysis arcing at low and medium voltage systems , the user can easily determine the safety limit for workers. According to the recommendations of IEEE 1584-2002 standard short-circuit current calculation always looking at to the contribution of fault current from the generator , induction and synchronous motors. The size of the arc flash energy can be determined from the some of view point. Among them is the value of arc flash energy will be greater if calculated using three- phase bolted fault current , while from the corner arc clearing time obtained from the time where the fault current at the time it happens will generate arc energy value lower. To reduce or decrease the value of the arc clearing this time many of the methods used, like doing resetting the coordination of protection. The result obtained in this thesis is, in typical 1 the highest value of incident energy 31.002cal/cm2 increased to 39.9 cal/cm2, in typical 2 the highest value of incident energy 29.1 cal/cm2 fell to 26.1 cal/cm2, in typical 3 the highest value of incident energy 82.8 cal/cm2 fell to 37.7 cal/cm.
