Abstract

Biodiesel sebagai bahan bakar alternatif yang renewable dapat mengurangi atau menggantikan bahan bakar fosil yang kandungannya semakin menipis. Namun biodiesel memiliki propertis fisik berupa viskositas, densitas yang relatif lebih besar, tetapi mempunyai nilai kalor yang lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan bahan bakar fosil dan biodiesel dapat meningkatkan emisi NOx serta nilai sfc. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pengaturan start of injection dan durasi injeksi terhadap unjuk kerja dan emisi gas buang mesin diesel sistem injeksi bertingkat.
Penelitian ini menggunakan bahan bakar biodiesel minyak jelantah dengan prosentase volumetric 100% (B100) dengan mengaplikasikan injektor solenoid pada mesin diesel empat langkah Diamond tipe Di 800. Pengujian ini dilakukan dengan injeksi bertingkat pada 75%-25% dan mengatur start of injection dengan nilai 10o, 12o, 14o, dan 16o before top dead center (BTDC) dan durasi injeksi dengan nilai 13, 15, 17, dan 19 milisecond (ms). Proses pengaturan start of injection dan durasi injeksi diatur oleh ECU programmable. Pengujian dilakukan di Laboratorium Teknik Pembakaran dan Bahan Bakar yang berada di Teknik Mesin FTI ITS Surabaya. Penelitian diawali dengan proses pembuatan biodiesel minyak jelantah dan pengujian propertis karakteristik biodiesel sebelum dilakukannya pengujian pada mesin diesel. Kemudian, dilakukan pengujian unjuk kerja pada putaran konstan (2000 rpm), pengambilan data pada pembebanan 500 Watt sampai 4.000 Watt dengan interval 500 Watt.
Hasil yang didapatkan adalah sistem injeksi bertingkat 75%-25% dengan variasi start of injection dan durasi injeksi diperoleh nilai daya, torsi, dan bmep mengalami kenaikan tetapi nilai sfc naik dan nilai efisiensi thermal turun dibandingkan sistem injeksi bertingkat 75%-25% standar. Nilai daya, torsi, dan bmep mengalami kenaikan maksimum pada pengaturan start of injection 16° CA BTDC dan pengaturan durasi injeksi 19 ms sebesar 5,56 %, 8,2 %, dan 7,9 % dan kenaikan terendah sebesar 0,7 %, 0,7 %, dan 0,9 %. Kenaikan nilai Sfc paling tinggi sebesar 5,84 % pada pengaturan start of injection 16° CA BTDC dan pengaturan durasi injeksi 19 ms dan paling rendah sebesar 1,16 % pada pengaturan start of injection 10° CA BTDC dengan pengaturan durasi injeksi 13 ms, sedangkan nilai efisiensi thermal mengalami penurunan paling tinggi sebesar 3,71 % pada pengaturan start of injection 16° CA BTDC dan pengaturan durasi injeksi 19 ms dan penurunan paling rendah pada pengaturan start of injection 10° CA BTDC dan pengaturan durasi injeksi 13 ms sebesar 0,82 %. Produksi emisi NOx pada start of injection 16° CA BTDC dengan variasi durasi injeksi 13, 15, 17, dan 19 ms meningkat dengan nilai rata-rata 6,1 % dibandingkan sistem injeksi bertingkat 75%-25% standar.

Biodiesel is an renewable alternative fuel that can be reduce
or replace fossil fuel dwindling. But biodiesel has physical
properties such as viscosity, density is relatively large, but has a
lower calorific value compared with fossil fuel and NOx emissions
and sfc increase with increasing concentrations of biodiesel. This
study was conducted to determine the effect of setting the start of
injection and injection duration of the performance and exhaust
emissions of diesel engines with multistage injection system.
This study uses waste cooking oil biodiesel fuels with
volumetric percentage of 100% (B100) by applying a solenoid
injectors in diesel engines are four steps Diamond type in 800. The
test is performed by multistage injection in 75% -25% and set the
start of injection to the value of 10 ° , 12 °, 14 °, and 16 ° before top
dead center (BTDC) and injection duration with a value of 13, 15,
17, and 19 millisecond (ms). The process of setting injection
duration is set by a programmable ECU. Tests carried out at the
Laboratory of Combustion Engineering and Fuels that are in
Mechanical Engineering FTI ITS Surabaya. The study begins with
the process of making waste cooking oil biodiesel and biodiesel
characteristic properties testing prior to testing on diesel engines.
Then, the test performance at constant rotation (2000 rpm), the
loading of data collection at load 500 Watt to 4,000 Watt to 500
Watt interval.The results obtained are multistage injection system 75% -
25% with a variation of the start of injection and injection duration
values obtained effective power, torque, and BMEP increased but
the value of SFC increase and thermal efficiency decrease compared
with multistage injection system 75% -25% of the standard. Value
of effective power, torque, and increases the maximum BMEP at the
start of injection setting of 16 ° CA BTDC and setting 19 ms injection
duration by 5.56%, 8.2%, and 7.9% and the lowest increase of 0.7%,
0.7% and 0.9%. SFC highest increase in value of 5.84% at the start
of injection setting of 16 ° CA BTDC and injection duration setting
19 ms and a minimum of 1.16% at the start of injection setting 10 °
CA BTDC and setting of injection duration 13 ms, while at thermal
efficiency value decreased a maximum of 3.71% at the start of
injection setting of 16 ° CA BTDC and 19 ms injection duration
settings and lowest decline at the start of injection setting 10 ° CA
BTDC and 13 ms duration setting injection of 0.82 %. The
production of NOx emissions at the start of injection to 16 ° CA
BTDC with a variation of the duration of injection 13, 15, 17, and
19 ms increases with an average value of 6.1% compared with 75%
-25% the standard of multistage injection system
