Abstract

As the economic development of a country increases, the
demand of energy especially in the electrical energy also
increases. One effort that can be done to increase the production
of electricity by the use of fossil fuel energy as efficiently as
possible is to establish a combined cycle power plant. The exit
gas from the gas turbine still has a high temperature. This high
temperature is used to convert water into steam in the HRSG.
Therefore, a thermal design calculation of HRSG needs to be
done in order to understand the procedure of the design
calculations as well as to learn how different content of the
turbine exhaust gas entering the HRSG to the steam results in the
design of a HRSG.
The thermal design analysis is done by analyzing the
input data in the form of the mass flow rate, the output
temperature, and the content of the gas that comes out from the
gas turbine, the temperature and the pressure of the steam that
come out of the HRSG. The initial step of the calculation is to
determine the heat requirement in each module in order to get the
temperature distribution in the HRSG. Then the heat transfer
surface area of each module in the HRSG needs to be calculated.
Then, pressure drop and efficiency of the HRSG system is
measured. One final analysis of the influence of the load variation
of the output of steam turbine of the HRSG. There are four
variations of the gas turbine load is currently 100%, 90%, 80% and 70%. From these variations, can be reviewed difference in
the efficiency of each gas turbine load.
From the thermal design calculation, we can conclude
that in order to convert 70°C water into 401°C steam using the
gas turbine exhaust gas with a temperature of 437°C, it requires
a total heat transfer area of 25.966,51 m

. From the analysis of
variations in gas turbine load, we found that the higher the load
of the gas turbine, the higher the amount of water/steam mass
flow that can be obtain, that is at the gas turbine load of 70% we
obtained 15 kg/s of steam, at the gas turbine load of 80% we
obtained 15,3 kg/s of steam, at the gas turbine load of 90% we
obtained 17,37 kg/s of steam, and at the gas turbine load of 100%
we obtained 18,59 kg/s of steam.
