Abstract

Masjid is the main place of worship for Muslims who need a good sound intelligibility. The sound intelligibility requires good room acoustic and or sound system quality. The improvement of speech intelligibility can be done with the improvement of acoustic quality as well as the selection and placement of the right speaker. Repair begun with an analysis of the masjid acoustics conditions using the parameters of the reverberation time (RT60), Clarity (C50) and Definition (D50). Based on the measurement results obtained RT60 value of 2.24 seconds, C50 of -1.98 dB and D50 at 27%. Reverberation time had not reached the recommended value of 1.9 seconds, while the C50 indicated the poor quality of the acoustic and D50 indicated a bad room acoustic quality. With the condition of the room, the improvements of the quality of room-acoustic of the mosque was done by adding carpet on the first floor, to obtain the reverberation time of 1.84 seconds. These result was used as the basis for the speaker placement simulation with the condition of the half-full and full room. The simulation of half-full room consition was resulting the best value % Alcons at 6.46% and STI for 0.606 with the speaker installation of F2000. While the results of the simulation with full conditions resulted the best average value %Alcons at 6.07% and STI at 6.17 with the installation of BS1030 speaker at the front of the 2nd floor and F2000 at the rear. More distributed value was resulted when using the F2000 speakers in the front and rear of the second floor room with the average %Alcons 6.08 and 0.616 for STI.
