Abstract

Energy Saving Device (ESD) is a device that serves to increase thrust efficiency of the ship. The function of the device is to reduce the energy loss whichaffect the fuel consumption. This device is placed around the propeller, which aim to reduce resistance in the area so that the resistance experienced by the vessel can be reduced. PT. Pertamina (Persero) as the companies involved in the field of oil and gas, requiring an environmentally friendly tankers in a term of fuel consumption. From the case, we searched the ESD models that will be installed for the tanker. Then we conduct the analysis by Ansys Fluent using Moving Mesh Method. From the analysis we got the results. There is an improvement of thrust efficiency around 2.526% at a speed of 10 knot, 4.452% at a speed of 15 knot, and 5.176% at a speed of 18 knot when the ESD installed on the vessel. The results of thrust measurement are 658182 N at a speed of 10 knot, 804881 N at a speed of15 knot, and 1182150 N at a speed of18 knot without ESD installed. Compared to 668186 N at a speed of 10 knot, 808917 N at a speed of15 knot, and 1195770 N at a speed of18 knot when ESD installed. It indicate that there is an improvement of thrust efficieny and thrust when ESD installed compared to when the ESD is not installed.
