Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the most number of elderly, reaching th 4th place in the world. The number keeps increasing since 2010. Along with the aging process, the elderly also experience degradation of immune system; with one of the signs is the decreasing ability to move. The change in their physique and mental influence their health as well. One of the mental effects is being more prone to loneliness and easy to feel bored.
The decrease of physical abilities in elderly caused them to become dependent and needs aids to ease their mobility. Physically, elderly gets tired easily, especially on their back and legs, having balance issues, getting difficulties to even bow, crouching, turning around while sitting, or standing for too long. Their senses are also decreasing, in example, their worsened eyesight, hearing, to their sense of touch which caused their hands to have tremors. With these physical and mental problems of the elderly, it’s important to have tools or walking aid that can minimize their boredom to keep their physical and mental health.
The research methods used for this project are literature data search, shadowing, and diary studies. Story telling method was also done directly to the elderly. The main point of this project is to design a walking aid that helps increasing the mobility of the elderly with elderly friendly concept which minimize their boredom and loneliness to save their physical and mental health
