Abstract
=================================================================
In this final project is analyzing the characteristics of ceramic insulators, which is leakage current and breakdown voltage of insulators due to air contamination on the coast. It is known that the ESDD of Gresik area is 0.3994 gr / cm2 with contaminant content such as, K (0.31%), Na (7.4%), Ca (31.54%), and Mg (30.77%), Insulator conditioning was performed using salt-fog method that chamber dimention is 1x1x1,3 m3. The salt-fog was performed according to the salination level during 3 hours. After that, UV irradiation and contaminant drying on the surface of the insulators using heater during 6 hours. Furthermore, the insulator is tested on the circuit breakdown voltage test and leakage current test and also SEM-test is done in insulator with salinity is 65.863 kg/m3 and without salt-fog (without conditioning). From the test, it is looked that the breakdown voltage of the insulator decreases each salinity increase. This is seen from the breakdown voltage value through the largest isolator when the isolator without salt-fog (without conditioning) that is equal to 54 kV while the smallest value of 24 kV when salinity is 65.863 kg/m3. The leakage current value of the insulator increases in proportion to the salinity. This can be seen from the average leakage current value of the smallest isolator when the isolator without salt-fog process (without conditioning) that is equal to 0.648 mA, while the largest leakage current value, which is 4.629 mA obtained when salinity is 65.863 kg/m3.
