Abstract

Cadangan bahan bakar fosil di dunia yang semakin menipis mengakibatkan pencanangan program pembuatan biodiesel menggunakan berbagai macam bahan baku yang tersedia di Indonesia seperti kelapa sawit sebagai bahan bakar alternatif oleh pemerintah. Salah satu bahan baku yang dapat digunakan adalah serai wangi dengan total luas area perkebunan di Indonesia sebesar 3.492 hektar dan akan terus bertambah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan kualitas pembakaran pada Pertamina Dex, Marine Diesel Oil dan Biodiesel minyak serai wangi dengan menggunakan alat mesin analisis proses pembakaran, yaitu TMR-Instrument Amplifier. Pada penelitian ini juga digunakan Exhaust Gas Recirculation system untuk mereduksi kadar NOx pada gas buang. Terdapat beberapa hasil dari penelitian ini, yaitu penambahan minyak serai wangi pada MDO (MDO B20) dapat meningkatkan nilai maximum combustion pressure hingga 7.42% dan nilai heat release hingga 21.31% pada pembebanan rendah. Penggunaan MDO B20 juga dapat mempercepat waktu ignition delay hingga 9.02% namun meningkatkan nilai knocking hingga 86.2%. Penggunaan bahan bakar MDO B20 yang menggunakan sistem EGR dapat menurunkan nilai maximum combustion pressure hingga 5.26%, nilai heat release hingga 10.99%, dan nilai knocking hingga 21.91%. Penambahan minyak serai wangi pada pertadex dapat menurunkan nilai maximum combustion pressure hingga 10.11%, menurunkan nilai heat release hingga 45.24%, menaikkan nilai knocking hingga 205% serta memperlambat waktu ignition delay hingga 28.58%.

The reserved fossil fuel in the world has been lowering causing the biodiesel production programme using various kind of source that is available in Indonesia for example palm oil as an alternative fuel by government. One of the source that can be used is lemongrass with the total area of plantation in Indonesia equal to 3.492 hectare and keep increasing. This experiment was meant to compare the combustion quality of Pertamina Dex, Marine Diesel Oil and Lemon Grass Oil Biodiesel by using combustion process analyzer that is TMR-Instrument Amplifier. In this experiment there will be Exhaust Gas Recirculation system to reduce the NOx level in exhaust gas. There are several results from this experiment which are, the addition of lemongrass oil to MDO (MDO B20) can increase the maximum combustion pressure value up to 7.42% and heat release value up to 21.31% on a lower load. The usage of MDO B20 can also fasten the ignition delay timing up to 9.02% but increase the knocking value up to 86.2%. The usage of MDO B20 with EGR system can decrease maximum combustion pressure value up to 5.26%, heat release value up to 10.99%, and knocking value up to 21.91%. The addition of lemongrass oil to pertadex can decrease maximum combustion pressure value up to 10.11%, decrease heat release value up to 45.24%, increase knocking value up to 205%, and shorten ignition delay timing up to 28.58%.
