Abstract

Organic liquid waste is an inevitable waste of the food production
from food industries. According to Government Regulation No. 82
year 2001 clause 8 on Environmental Management, there are
several parameters used to determine water quality, including
COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand). High COD content in liquid
organic waste can disrupt aquatic ecosystems and damage the
earth's atmosphere. For that COD content can be reduced by
UASB reactor that produces biogas. However there was a problem
in the use of UASB reactor that was the number of bacteria in the
form of granules that are wasted along with the effluent during the
process. In this final project, a study of the effect of the influent
flow rate on the biomass consentration which is wasted was
conducted to determine the optimal flow rate. To conduct the study,
an estimation of the Monod parameters for biomass in the UASB
reactor, modeling reactor as a multilevel CSTR, and UASB reactor
modeling according to the reactor height were conducted. The
suitable flow rate for UASB reactor in GGF Corp. was obtained in
the range of 150 to 175 m3/ h, where there were less bacterial
concentration in the effluent (0.001393 to 0.4919 kg / m3), the time
to reach the steady state did not take too long compared with other
variations (48.640 to 60,800 days), COD Removal was adequate
for biogas production and microbial growth, that is equal to
57,81% to 66, 57% when first reached HRT and 97,74% to 97.98%
when reaching steady state.
