Abstract

========================================================================== One of the problem in welding a metal material that is in a metal welding using SMAW electrodes result that have moisture content due to be left in free air or exposed to rain. In the current study will analyze about the influence of the different of time soaking in the filler (without being soaked, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes) prior to welding SMAW againts ST37 with testing materials radiography (ASME Sect. V) which aims to discover defects that occur on the results of welds on material that has been given a seam 60º, and test metalography (macro-etching) that aims to find out the structure of a macro on the area limitation Base Metal, HAZ (Heat Affected Zone), and Weld Metal. From the results obtained in test, radiography is obtained that the specimen with a filler that do not have a disability who soaked a little more (cluster porosity and porosity) and only occurs at two points instead of filler that is marinated for 30 minutes test (slug inclusion and porosity), 45 minutes (slug inclusion, porosity, and cluster porosity), and 60 minutes (slug inclusion and porosity). While in metalography, obtained by testing that the width of the HAZ in the filler without soaked has wider area (4,4mm) than the filler that is marinated for 30 minutes (3,93mm), 45 minutes (2,98mm), and 60 minutes (1,96mm).
